Paint

Paint (v1.0.4) is a core syaOS application designed for creative expression and basic image manipulation. It provides a familiar canvas-based interface for drawing, editing, and applying effects to digital images, making digital art accessible for all syaOS users.

Paint serves as a versatile image creation and editing tool within the syaOS environment. Users can leverage its intuitive interface to sketch ideas, create simple graphics, or perform quick edits on existing images. Its focus is on accessibility and ease of use, making it suitable for both casual users and those needing a straightforward tool for visual tasks.

The application supports fundamental drawing operations, comprehensive color management, and a selection of artistic filters. From freehand drawing with various brushes to filling areas with unique patterns, Paint offers a robust yet approachable experience for digital artistry and basic photo enhancements.

  • Intuitive Drawing Tools: A comprehensive toolbar on the left provides various drawing implements, including pencils, brushes, shapes (lines, rectangles, circles), and more, to bring your ideas to life on the canvas.
  • Vibrant Color Palette: Easily select and apply colors from a dedicated palette located below the tools, allowing for precise control over your artwork's hues and fills.

  • Flexible Saving Options: Save your creations to the syaOS file system, either preserving the current file using File > Save or saving a new version with a different name using File > Save As.

User Guide

Getting Started

To launch Paint, locate its icon in the syaOS application launcher or open an image file associated with Paint. Once open, you'll be presented with a blank canvas, ready for your artistic endeavors. Select a tool, pick a color, and start drawing!

Key Actions

  • Drawing: Select a tool from the left-hand toolbar (e.g., Pencil, Brush, Line, Rectangle) and click/drag on the canvas to draw. Adjust stroke width using the settings panel.
  • Choosing Colors: Click on a color swatch in the color palette located below the tools to set your active drawing color for lines, fills, or text.
  • Applying Patterns: Select a pattern from the bottom palette to use it for filling shapes or areas with predefined textures.
  • Undoing Actions: If you make a mistake, navigate to Edit > Undo in the menu bar or use the keyboard shortcut ⌘Z to revert your last action.
  • Saving Your Work: To save your current artwork, go to File > Save. If you wish to save it under a new name or in a different location, use File > Save As.
  • Applying Filters: Explore various visual effects by selecting options from the Filters menu, such as Invert, Grayscale, or Brightness, to quickly alter your image's appearance.

Tips & Shortcuts

  • Use ⌘Z to quickly undo your last drawing or editing action.
  • Experiment with different brush sizes using the stroke settings to vary your line thickness and create diverse visual effects.
  • Combine patterns with different foreground and background colors for unique textural designs.
  • Before applying a filter, consider saving your current progress using File > Save As to easily revert if you don't like the result, preserving your original artwork.

State Management
